Press Dough Cookie Maker Review:

The Press Dough Cookie Maker has been hammered in other online reviews. Everyone is saying it is too difficult to press the dough. Others are saying that the cookies come out all melted. The reviews go on and on. However... As it turns out, it really works. You just need to stop using regular cookie dough with the 'Press Dough.'

You should be using Spritz Cookie recipes (also known as Pressed Cookies). What are Spritz Cookies? Well "Spritz" is German for "spritzen" and means "to squirt." This is what is done with this cookie dough -- it is made specifically to be put in a cookie press (cookie gun). The cookie press is a barrel with an easy-to-squeeze trigger -- and they use it to "squirt" the soft cookie dough on a cookie sheet using decorative designs. As you can plainly see -- regular cookie dough -- just won't fit though a cookie press. In the same token, regular cookie dough just won't work with press dough. So the best recipe I've found is the Betty Crocker Ultimate Spritz. Some other tips:
  • Do preheat the oven to 400º. I am well aware most cookie recipes say 350º. However, your cookies will seem to work better at 400º.
  • Bake a test batch, about 2 or 3 cookies, to test the dough.
  • If the dough sticks -- you may add a bit of milk to ease consistency.
  • If the dough does not hold shape; you may need to refrigerate the dough for 15 minutes.
Using these tips should yield you better results than the other online reviews about the 'Press Dough.' It's actually not hard at all--once you use the right kind of dough. Enjoy!
