Proactive There are a lot of positive and negative comments about Proactive. It does make your skin dry. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to avoid. Benzoyl Peroxide is harsh. It didn't control my Son's acne. But it doesn't mean it doesn't work for other people. It worked for Adam Levine & Katy Perry, right?

  1. Made my daughter break out horribly

  2. It didn't make my son break out any worse. However, it's not worth the price. We get the same results using the standard oxy pads. It't nothing special. Save you money and get the normal priced stuff at walgreens

  3. Worked out very well for both my sons. But--that was 15 years ago. I wonder how the formula has changed?

  4. I tried this and it dried my skin sooo bad. What worked for me was Serious Skin Care. I had very bad acne in my late 20's and the Serious Skin Care Glycolic line is what worked for me.

  5. Go to the dermatologist and get proper treatment if acne is more than the occasional break-out. Bad acne can lead to infections and permanent scarring.

    1. I agree with this statement. Even a General Practitioner can tell if you have acne or not, so please go and get it looked at. More than likely they will prescribe an Antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory for your skin as my doctor did when I was young and had acne. Best thing I ever did as the results were almost overnight.

  7. Years ago I spent a fortune on my youngest son's acne. Then I saw a Proactive ad on TV. It said that the main ingredient was peroxide. Yes, I know they say Benzoyl Peroxide, but I got to thinking. It has been determined that germs cause acne. So why not Hydrogen Peroxide? I got a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide for my son (which back then only cost 99 cents). Dampened a cotton ball with it and applied it to his face. His acne was gone in less than a week. I even use it myself when I get a few little break outs on my nose. Works great.

  8. Look up niacinamide (a.k.a. nicotinamide) and acne. I take 500 mg twice a day to good effect and not topically--no opinion on using it topically. Inexpensive. No side effects noticed.

  9. Many people don't realize they are signing up for automatic shipment. It is not just a one time buy.

  10. I took Zinc for my acne, 90 mil a day for seven days then as needed if I saw a breakout coming. The money I spent on a dermatologist was a waste. This remedy was found in Prevention Magazine. When my daughter was growing up she took it. It is inexpensive and works great. Some may need to eat with it.
